Paul Jones - Managing Director

An inspiring leader, original thinker and astute
businessman, Paul has 23 years’ experience running a successful,
highly creative, design and marketing business.
Keeping a hands-on approach with both staff and clients, he
gives vital strategic and creative input into every account,
continually raising the standard and improving the output. As
an experienced marketer, conceptualiser and illustrator, he is
often called upon to take the best ideas one step further.
His strategic marketing experience spans many sectors from
leisure to luxury retail, specialising for the past 16 years in
healthcare. He has spearheaded numerous high profile, highly
creative and successful marketing campaigns in private healthcare,
public sector health, mental health and occupational health.
After leaving university with a degree in Art and Interior
Design, Paul began his career in London working for an interior
design agency. In 1989 Paul moved to the South Coast to join
Merchant Design as Managing Director, with the clear aim of growing
the business from its original design remit into marketing and
communications.
In 1993, Merchant started working with BMI Healthcare, the UK’s
largest private hospital group, initiating the move into the
healthcare sector. As the client list and the number of staff
increased, it became clear that many clients were looking for a
more integrated service – so after 2005 Merchant expanded to add
public relations and digital communications to complement the
graphic design and marketing skills already present.
In 2008 the company rebranded as Merchant Marketing Group with
its own healthcare marketing division, Merchant Healthcare
Marketing.
